Metricon Homes has again taken the Housing Industry Association (HIA) Award for the nation’s number one builder for the fourth year running.
Updated October: After last year’s hattric Metricon Homes has again taken out the HIA-Colorbond steel housing 100 report for 2018/9 for the most builds. Metricon beat out Meriton homes for the number 1 spot by over 1000, building 4,473 for the 2018/19 period. Meriton made a dramatic improvement from 9th place last year to 2nd and remains the nation’s largest apartment builder.
Interestingly construction on new builds dropped by around 15% in the financial year 17/18 which can be put down to market uncertainty, however the top 100 builders decline was less dramatic at 6%. As the market contracted we saw the market share for the top 100 Builders increase from 33% in 17/18 to 35% in 18/19. This is typical of a contracting market and follows previous trends.
Sydney was arguably the hardest hit across the country with a much larger decline in new home starts than Melbourne which maintained a moderately strong build market despite a leveling out during the year. The Top 100 reflected a larger quantity of apartment builds with the likes of Meriton racing up the list.
Metricon continues to dominate the market bringing in a slew of awards for 2018 and 2017.
Metricon was founded in 1976 by Mario Biasin and George Kline. It states on the Metricon website that “all they wanted to do was build houses people would love to live in”. Based on the 4,473 built in an uncertain market we would say they may have just accomplished that.
“to love your home, you have to trust that it has been built to perfection”
Metricon credits their success to an understanding that “to love your home, you have to trust that it has been built to perfection”, they also upgraded their structural guarantee from 25 years to life at the start of 2019.
Metricon Director Ross Palazzesi released a statement in January 2019 stating “We confidently offer a Lifetime Structural Guarantee* that is in place as long as you stay in your Metricon home,”.
We look forward to following Metricon’s progress through the 2019/20 year including their latest move in South East Queensland and Northern NSW to get on the DualOcc freight train offering investors in Queensland even more opportunity.
